Save The Movie!

I’ve got a big problem: there’s only one of me. We’re shooting about ninety minutes of footage per week. As far as logging, organizing, and downconverting the footage goes, I’m backlogged by about twenty hours.

At this rate, the film will never be finished.

I figured that out a couple weeks ago, and have been working on a solution ever since.

Now, I think I’ve got it: I need to recruit volunteers to catalog, organize, and downconvert the footage.

I know what you’re thinking:

“Um… English, please?”

Let me explain how this works: We shoot footage with the camcorder. After that, I have to import the footage onto my computer. Then, the footage has to be catalogued using a program called Evernote. After that, the huge HD video files I’ve imported need to be downconverted into smaller files (otherwise I couldn’t edit them on my laptop).

This is a lengthy process… High definition video is beautiful, but it’s a tremendous logistical burden–especially when you’re editing on a laptop.

So, I’m recruiting volunteers, people in the church with a few hours a week to donate to help get this all this footage catalogued. Four people have been generous enough to be my test persons (thank you!). I’ve just finished a training video, which will show them how to use Vegas and Evernote. I bought two external 1-terabyte hard drives so they can do it at home.

If this works out, I’ll owe a lot of people Chili’s gift certificates. :)
