Wow—has it really been this long?
Life has certainly been interesting the past two months. In fact, it seems like it’s been turned upside-down, for one reason or another, about once a week… all summer. I’ve been wondering of the train would ever slow down long enough for me to take a breath. Maybe it is. I’m a little afraid to ask.
I’ve spent the past two weeks assessing EVERYTHING, re-evaluating my spiritual, social, and professional priorities. Life definitely needs to be simplified.
I’ve been working three jobs in addition to trying to balance my filmmaking opportunities. I spent the morning working at the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, installing fixtures at a retail store there, running a pallet jack. It’s good work, and I actually enjoy it… but it’s pretty ironic: I’m doing the same work again that I did ten years ago, stocking away, trying to earn money for college.
My favorite job is at church. It took a couple months to get up and running, and I’m getting to a point where I feel functional now. Our church family is amazing, and I love my coworkers: they’re my best friends, and I love serving them.
COMIC-CON VIDS
Here’re a couple vids from Comic-Con. The Convention itself was difficult (definitely my least favorite year), and I was plagued with technical problems while filming, but I think you’ll like these clips:
1 – An interview with Justin Gerard, who leads a team of incredible artists at Portland Studios:
2- Some quality time with the Klingons of KJV Stranglehold:
This past week or so, I’ve been able to refocus on Razorwire, my feature length church documentary.* Most of my work the past week or so has been transcribing interviews, trying to get a sense of how to organize all this information into a feature film. It’ll be a LOT of work… tons of really deep content to get into, some of it exploring dark and murky emotional terrain. Transcribing all that content, though, will help me to do a LOT of pre-editing on paper, thus helping to assemble the film more quickly. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with Razorwire**!
The Shrub Whisperer—the short film I’ve mentioned in earlier posts—is, in spite of all ground-gaining on the contrary, on hold until at least the end of the year. The film needs copious Additional Dialogue Recording. I won’t be happy with the film until the ADR is complete. And I won’t release the film until I’m happy with it. Once it’s complete, however, I’ll probably just upload it to the website with all the extras, including a Commentary and a Spoof Commentary.***
So that’s where I’m at. I hope you’re doing well, guys.

* Yes, that IS an odd title for a documentary, much less a documentary about Baptists. Maybe I’ll change the title again. Probably I’ll change it.
** Sometimes I like that title, sometimes I don’t. What do you think?
*** Like in Mystery Science Theater 3000. It’ll be funny. Promise.
