About

John Chiafos - Director

John was born in San Diego, California, a really long time ago. He was raised in Maryland, Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota, Virginia, and South Carolina, and finally moved back to San Diego in 2005. At age five, his daddy took him to see “Top Gun,” where John decided he would one day pilot F-14 Tomcats for the United States Navy. During the years that followed, two things happened: the Navy decommissioned the F-14, and John fell in love with film.

In college, John self-consciously studied computer science, mostly out of an already-dwindling love for video games. He was, however, a spectacular failure at it… and by that time, he’d decided filmmaking was the only way to go. Five months later, he was directing comedy videos for Student Body presentations, dramatic short films, and documentaries.  Since 2002, John has never had fewer than four projects going at once.

After graduating in 2005, John moved to California. He cut his teeth on wedding and corporate video for three years, building a small business while balancing his day job in auto finance. In 2008, Canyon Ridge Baptist Church commissioned him to direct the feature-length documentary and memoir “Razorwire.” Immediate acclaim followed, and… oh, wait–that hasn’t happened yet.

I’m a PC, though I own an iPhone. I’m not a writer, but sometimes I read. I’m a web designer and developer from South Jersey (10 min. outside of Philly for those geographically impaired). I love semantic code and am always impressed with web development. I’m happily in love with my wife, but I do tend to fantasize about Firefox, web standards, grid layouts, web apps, and just about everything web related. I believe that Internet Explorer is a disease and should be stopped.

My story at 310 Pictures should be on a Far Side Birthday Card. I met John at college (some of you know this place as the Land of Make-Believe). It was bizarre at first site. We stayed friends throughout the years. John approached me about this ridiculous idea of a film company. I saw his work and immediately realized the potential and talent. Some would think pointing a camera at people pretending would be easy, but it actually takes skill and a certain type of patience. John has most of both. I don’t know exactly how or when I became part of this chaotic journey. Most of what I remember is a blur. The only thing I recall is a Shel Silverstein dream and John forcing me to drink the Blood of Kali.
